Omosaze (Oh moe SAW zay) engages dedicated, board-certified teachers and trained volunteers to help transform children who struggle with school into students who enjoy reading and demonstrate newfound confidence and success in both academic and social settings.
Since its inception, Omosaze reading programs have helped nearly 1,100 students in Cobb County.
Omosaze provides three no- and low-cost, comprehensive reading intervention programs for students in grades 1 - 3:
Each program provides:
-Reading Club (After school)
-Reading Camp (Summer)
-A small group format (6-8 students per class)
-Instruction led by certified teachers
-Evaluation for effectiveness
-Vocabulary development, word recognition and reading comprehension instruction
-A structured system, developed by an educational curriculum specialist - targeted to specific Georgia education standards
Improving Literacy, Building Strong Readers
Students who attended at least 14 sessions of Omosaze’s Reading Saturday made positive and noteworthy gains in their reading ability:
-93% of the grades one and two students gained in knowledge of basic sight vocabulary.
-81% of all students made significant gains in reading comprehension.
-80% of students met or exceeded the expected performance on Georgia’s Reading CRCT or a Reading Benchmark Test.
-94% of students earned promotion to the next grade-level.
