The New York Times published an article on July 5, 2009 titled “In Prisoner’s Wake, a Tide of Troubled Kids” calling prisoners’ children the “incarceration generation.”

“Recent studies indicate that having an incarcerated parent doubles the chance that a child will be at least temporarily homeless and measurably increases the likelihood of physically aggressive behavior, social isolation, depression and problems in school – all portending dimmer prospects in adulthood.”

The Numbers:

1 in 14 children have a parent incarcerated.

These children are 70% more likely to be incarcerated themselves.

Only ONE of our adult age camper-turned-counselors is incarcerated out of 90 youth.

Our Mission:
kidz2leaders®, inc. exists to help change the lives of prisoners’ children and to break the vicious cycle of incarceration. We help them rise above their circumstances, teach them to become leaders and provide a life of hope through Christian programming and a fun environment.

Our History:
Noting that inmates’ children are one of the most overlooked groups in North America, President Rev. Diane Parrish founded Camp Hope®, a one-week overnight summer camp, to serve this population in the metro-Atlanta area. Camp Hope held its first summer camp in 2000 with only 13 campers.  As the campers grew in age, so did the camp and its programming. The organization expanded to offer year-round programming under the name of kidz2leaders, inc (k2l).

What We Do:
Our programmaing includes a week-long overnight summer camp called Camp Hope that serves 175 children and youth annually, camper-turned-counselor programs, interns4tomorrow®, hope4Christmas®, mentors4hope®, and retreats and field trips. The interns4tomorrow program connects our former campers with companies throughout the Atlanta-area. The goal of the program is to expose students to the business world, have them participate in various job functions, as we develop their business and social skills and enable them to develop career opportunities and goals.

GA Gives Day Competition:
We are competing for an incentive grant from SunTrust Bank for our interns4tomorrow program ranging between $500 to $5,000. To compete, we need to raise at least $2,500 and we need YOUR help to do it.  The more money we raise, the larger our grant will be.

Join us in supporting HOPE in these children's lives.
