Every day, Georgia children with developmental disabilities such as autism, down syndrome and cerebral palsy, go without therapies that would improve and enrich their lives because their parents cannot afford it. Many families spend as much as $27,000 per year sometimes more than their take home pay. Often one parent must leave their job to care for the child adding to the economic burden.

The Innovative Health Foundation closes this economic gap for families. Through our clinical scholarship program, families receive grants to pay for therapies and other innovative approaches not covered by insurance, state or federal funding.

Like Katie, an independent, outgoing and motivated young girl, she needs help every day putting on her orthotics and shoes and styling her hair. To help with fatigue at school, she uses a mobile chair.

Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, her condition limits her movement and daily activities. “Katie desperately wants to be independent as much as possible. She is extremely aware of her physical differences among her friends. She isn’t able to cheer or play softball (or any team sports) often making her feel left out,” shares Katie’s mother, Melissa.

Thanks to a scholarship from the Innovative Health Foundation, Katie participates in hippotherapy, a form of therapy with horses that strengthens and stretches her muscles. “Because her most significant limitations are related to muscle tightness, hippotherapy has had amazing affects. Less tightness increases her mobility and her ability to be more independent and ultimately increases her self esteem,” states Melissa.

Katie hopes one day to compete in the Equestrian Special Olympics. With the help of a scholarship, Katie is one step closer to her dream.

Your generous donation helps children like Katie receive the care and treatment needed to lead happy and independent lives, every parent’s hope for their child. And thanks to a generous donor, your gift is matched 100%, doubling your support.  Above all, know that your gift has provided a child with therapeutic services whose family cannot afford it.
