FAIRVIEW SCHOOL RESTORATION PROJECT
Cave Spring, GA

Project Overview

The Fairview School campus was constructed in Cave Spring, Georgia in 1924 under a joint venture between Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington - the largest and most impressive philanthropic building campaign to educate African Americans in the South.  The four acre campus was neglected for almost 60 years until miraculously rediscovered by alumni beneath a ‘sea of kudzu’ in 2009.  The sole remaining building, the first grade building, is highly endangered by its deteriorating structure.  Click here for more information:  http://www.fairviewbrown.org.

THE NEW LIVING CAMPUS

Just as Julius Rosenwald sponsored a major educational endeavor on this very campus in 1924, your sponsorship can ensure that the campus lives another 100 years forever changing the lives of children and citizens of Georgia.

With your support, this Northwest Georgia treasure can be repurposed to become an interpretive center modelled after the award-winning National Register listed Tulle Smith Farm at the Atlanta History Center. Tourists and children alike will enjoy period features and docents reenacting alumni and local personal accounts of experiences that influenced their lives and gave them the personal resolve to succeed. As a S.T.E.A.M. Resource Center, the history becomes pertinent to all children as they explore the sciences and arts. Gardening themes and trails can be adopted by schools to augment classroom instruction. *STEAM: acronym for Science, Technology, Education, Art, and Mathematics.
